Pre- and Postpartum Women

If you can take care of yourself, you can take care of the world.
~Natalie Telyatnikov, Founder of Better Postpartum.

Does motherhood come easily?

Your friends and other new mothers make new motherhood look easy. They seem to be adjusting easily into their groove of pregnancy or new motherhood… but you struggle just to get through the day.

Exhausted, drained, feeling unlike yourself, confused, overwhelmed by all the changes of pregnancy or the postpartum period. Wondering if there’s something wrong with you as a mother.

You don’t feel as connected to your baby as you’d like others to think you are… or perhaps what your Facebook feed demonstrates to everyone. You wonder, “Am I really cut out for motherhood after all?” “Will I ever experience that so-called ‘joy of motherhood’?

The transition to motherhood

Becoming a new mother is a huge transition in a woman’s life. For many, the pre- and/or postpartum time can feel like a difficult, confusing and overwhelming experience. A time that is supposed to be the happiest can be a time filled with depression and anxiety.

While most new mothers experience the baby blues, approximately 10-20% of women will develop depression in their first year postpartum.

Although this type of depression can have serious physical and mental health implications for both the mother and the baby long-term, studies have found that therapy is the most effective way to treat postpartum depression and anxiety.
